The Villagers Walk the Talk

The 702 Walk the Talk is nothing to be laughed at. Especially when you’re doing 15 kilometres. But that’s exactly what the team here at Student Village did.

The 24th of July saw us up bright and early and at the starting line by 07:30. With over 50000 participants this year, Emmarentia was overflowing with people of all ages and dogs of all kinds. Many of the people who participated simply as casual walkers (we’ll get to those rather intense “real walkers” later), formed groups and arrived in customised outfits or carried a specific accessory, as did the Chevrah Kadisha with their purple balloons.

The Walk was tough but enjoyable, as we chatted with each other and were refreshed at four points along the route with water, Coke and Powerade. The only rather awkward part was the above mentioned “real walkers” who were doing the 30 Km route and were most unpleasantly insistent that we move out of their way. It wasn’t unusual to hear a few swear words thrown around.

All in all, it was a good morning that ended with a big breakfast at News Café in Campus Square. The day after, back at work, wasn’t as much fun though, with people hobbling up and down the stairs with little moans.

But we will be back again next year!
