







Smirnoff has been chosen as one of the top brands by students on social networking sites, according to the latest SA Student Social Media Report. In fact, Smirnoff Spin came in 3rd place behind Converse and Nike as a favourite for SA students in research conducted on campuses in November 2009. When students were asked why SPIN came out tops, they said it was the legendary SPIN parties that were promoted mainly through sites like Student Village's social networking platform. In fact, Smirnoff Spin was the first RTD (Ready-to-Drink) brand to have an online community in South Africa.

The majority of the marketing for the SPIN parties on campus was done through non-traditional means and the brand left it up to the student brand ambassadors on campus to use their own social networks such as mxit, twitter and facebook to get the word out and promote the Spin events.
Photo sharing was a big hit, and after the SPIN parties, photographs were shared online through sites like Blueworld and Thunda.com
