In my world a picture like this means a lot. It means my clients will be very happy with our work and that their campaign has been executed properly. And to brand managers wishing to enter the youth market it gets them very excited at the prospect of reaching the masses and creating real awareness. What you're looking at is a campus promotion that's been running on campuses nationally and the magic ingredient ensuring the hordes of students have been 3 of the country's hottest DJ celebrities who are mixing it up on campus with some amazing tracks. It's very easy to get excited about including celebrities into your campaigns because they'll guarantee a return. And for all intents and purposes this picture means the brand manager is also doing their job.

But you gotta love it when Graham Brown, international youth expert says, “The reason why there's always a place for celebrities is because there will always be lazy brand managers.” In his article, titled: Forget Lady Gaga -– Kill Your Brand Manager, Graham talks about using celebs and sponsorships as an 'easy-out' for brand managers wishing to buy their way into the youths' mind space.

Fair enough, once the promotion ends, and the celebrities have moved on to their next gig, what will young people be remembering, and for how long? As a brand manager you may be nailing your ROI within the campaign timeframe, but are you really building your brand sustainably?

Great brands share one thing in common -– they give up trying to be 'brand custodians' and let the real brand owners take over -– their customers. And they help them continue the dialogue with each other. Customer conversations are far more compelling than anything we say about our own brands.

Graham adds that great brands silently and diligently convert one customer at a time. So while images like this do create massive awareness do they create real relevance to the market? And will they last?
